Hey, all. Today we're dreamcasting characters from a prevalent franchise. It had its initiation in 1984 as a gritty, yet satirical comic book by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It was entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'm essentially telling you the righteous folks I' would've cast in the 2014 and 2016 Turtle films, if they were reminiscent of the underestimated 1990 movie, which combined the comics with aspects of the 80s cartoon. It did so effectively.
Firstly, I'll proclaim that I would have given cameos to both Eastman and Laird. In the interest of fairness, we'll go over casting-choices I found totally tubular. Elephants in the room aside, I am a fan of Whoopi Goldberg as a performer and liked the idea of having her as a gender-swapped version of Burne Thompson (Whoopi actually achieved a goal by portraying the role). Gary Anthony Williams and Sheamus Farrelly fit the roles of Bebop and Rocksteady like gloves. As Krang, Brad Garrett (a friend of Pat Fraley) was an idealistic contender for voicing Krang, though his voice might've been synced to a puppet. Minae Noji and Brittany Ishibashi were both worthy choices for Karai, but I'd select Brittany from the get-go. She's closer in age to my picks for the turtles. She'd be believable as the surrogate-daughter of the actor I have as Shredder. It was cool having William Fichtner as an insidious industrialist. I'd retain and actually utilize K. Todd Freeman as Dr. Baxter Stockman! He'd be capable of thriving as a mad scientist, and possibly a fly creature, too.
Let's proceed to human characters. Regarding April's co-workers, I have slated Raul Esparza for the role of Verne Fenwick. He resembled the animated incarnation of the character, and had the ability to portray a cowering, conceited camera guy. We're including Irma, too. For this role, we're selecting Kate Micucci, who voiced the character in the 2012 animated series. Kate was an uncanny choice for the nerdish character. She had the capabilities to portray the part onscreen.
We're at the turtle's primary homosapien allies. I'm casting the rad Steven Strait as Casey Jones. If Steven portrayed the role, he'd provide the charm, machoness and badassery. I'd buy Strait as a street-smart vigilante, too. Elizabeth Olsen, who actually auditioned for the role, could've excelled as April O'Neil. Olsen would have brought intelligence, likeability and coolness to the part. Lizzie could play a reporter and rock a yellow jumpsuit, too. Before we leave the subject of April, I'll state that I wouldn't have cut Judith Hoag's cameo.
Anyhow, let's cast 2 adversaries. For the voice of Master Splinter, I've chosen Sab Shimono, a distinguished thespian. He'd maintain dignity, even while voicing a mutated rat. Shimono would've been able to convey Splinter's wisdom, vengeance, strictness and warmth. Splinter might've been an on-set, elaborate character puppet, with Sab in proximity for voice-characterizing. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's been suggested for Oroku Saki, alias The Shredder. I'm in agreement with the notion. Cary could be appropriately agonistic. He'd be able to emote in a samurai helmet. Cary also had the built of the Mirage comics Shredder, too.
Now we cast our heroes in a half-shell. These actors might've worn individualistic, durable creature suits with prosthetic heads. Let's begin with my favourite turtle, Michelangelo! Ryan had the comedic skills to portray Mikey. I could picture Ryan enacting the character's immaturity and lovability. Liam Aiken might've brought Donnatello to life. He'd be picturesque at playing Donny, a reptilian, easygoing nerd. Booboo Stewart is incredibly brawny and might have had angst as Raphael. He could've brought ironic humanity and boisterousness to the role of Raph, too. Lastly, we cast Leonardo. For the longest time, my choice for Leo's been Joel Courtney, a compelling actor who could portray a hero and leader.
