Hey, there. In June's 2nd blog post, I'm going to confide a Greg fact with you. I'm a ginormous admirer of Sid and Marty Krofft, the showrunners and producers. Specifically, I'm a fan of H.R. Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos and Lidsville (my favourite shows of theirs). They're enjoyably campish, cultishly classical, anomalously trippy and momentous in their creativity. The brothers recruited a conglomerate of talents, too.
I reckon there's potentials to reboot the 3 shows as animated series. Sid and Marty are actually inquisitive with the notion of rebooting their products. Nickelodeon could be accredited with production 'cause the Krofft brothers collaborated with Nick. Paramount could distribute (the Kroffts actually recorded the shows on the studio's lot). Animating the shows could be a viabled method of reinterpretation. The Krofft's shows posses lucracivity 'cause they are merchandisable. They're felicitous products to reboot 'cause they maintain some obscurity. There could eventually be potentialing for theatrical, animated Krofft features.
It'd be judicious to animate the Krofftian reboots with 2D animation. It'd be jubilant for the artists and animators to participate. There could be detailed Krofftly backdrops. The cannily puppeteered, anthropomorphic/sentient characters are executable in a cartoon. The characters initially portrayed by live-actors could be humanoid figures. The character designs and backgrounds could be reminiscent of promotional tie-in Krofft comic books. There's jokes/gags and scenarios that posses executication in animation, too.
Obviously, I've assembled Krofftish dreamcasts. They're posted elsewhere. Similar to Joan Gerber, Lennie Weinrib (co-writer of H.R. Pufnstuf) and Walker Edmiston, the voice-characterizers of the originals, there's folks voicing multiple characters. They posses a mixture of voice-artists and people with onscreen and/or stage credits.
I'll state highlighted casting choices for ya. I cast characters from the H.R. Pufnstuf television series and the 1970 Pufnstuf movie. Randy Credico could obtain a role reprisal and voice Puf. Nika Futterman's Jimmy, Jack Wild's role, 'cause Nika's voiced little boys and has the capability of enacting an English accent. Mindy Sterling portrayed Wilhelmina W. Witchiepoo at 2 prominence events for the Kroffts and could vocally embody the role. Sheryl Lee Ralph could convey Boss Witch's wickedly cantankerous misdemeanors. To honor Cass Elliott, I cast a singer with acting ability as Witch Hazel--Julie Brown, someone who'd be conveying imperious cattiness.
For the 4 Bugaloos, Joy, Harmony, Courage and I.Q., I'd recruit a quartet of unknowns. Sheryl Lee is Benita Bizarre, Martha Raye's 2nd Krofftian role, too--Ralph could portray Benita's extravagant desperation. Googy Gress possesses the capabilities of enacting Sparky the Firefly's neuroticality and lovability.
In the Lidsville dreamcast, Zach Callison's Mark 'cause he'd be impassionate, condolable and principled. The wonderous Jane Wiedlin would enact Weenie the Genie's boyish cuteness and clumsiness. Tom Kenny (a favourite of this blog) is Horatio J. Hoodoo, alias "The Great Hoodoo". Tom succeeded the intriguing Charles Nelson Reilly, the role's originator, has energized exuberance and portrayed an amoral magician role.
Music was an integral aspect of the original shows. The Krofftous reboots oughta follow-suit. There could be 70ish scoring. Contemporaried liveliness could be integrated into musical numbers from the originals, namely the insightful theme songs. I could envision unknown composers and songwriters thriving at succeeding Norman Gimbel, Les Zsarves and Charles Fox.
The Krofftious reboots could have a deft, blessinged, female, virtuous showrunner. There could be nods to and retained aspects of the original. For example, they could retain the celebrity homages, 4-wall breaking, zaniness and actually humorous adult humor/references of cleverness. There could be faithfulness and reinterpretation. The shows could contain adaptations of episodes from the originals and newfangled storylines. With the engagingly outlandish premises, there's a plethora of story opportunities. There could be resolutions & crossovers. The racially insensitive characters should be removed or retooled/cast authentically.
There's bona fide characteristics of the Krofft's shows. There's genialed, rootable protagonists, jocose, alarming villains and eclectic, innocuous side characters. They're a mixture of cogent morals and enjoyment. The proposed Krofft reboots would generate buzziness for the originals. The youth could be persuaded into sussing them out. Viewers of the original shows could view the reboots. Maybe parents who viewed the originals could view the reboots and original shows with their kids. I dedicate this to the memory of Billie Hayes, the epochal, veneered Witchiepoo and Weenie. Billie was staggeringly talented, staunchly professional and a stupenderous person.
